Established in December 2000 and located in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Pudong, Shanghai Supercomputer Center (SSC) is the first public service platform for high performance computing in China, dedicated to providing high-end computing service for national science and technology progress and industrial innovation. It is funded by Shanghai Municipal Government and equipped with first-class infrastructure, advanced supercomputers and plentiful scientific and engineering simulation software.
Shanghai Supercomputer Center serves R&D groups from the whole China and some overseas regions. User organizations involve academic research institutes, universities, industries, public utilities, etc. The application domains include mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, earth science, mechanics, aviation, aerospace, automobile, ship, steel, microelectronics, nuclear power engineering, equipment manufacturing, civil engineering, environment and climate, drug design, life science, new materials, new energy, etc. By SSC’s computing platform, technical support, and consulting, numerous important engineering innovation and scientific discoveries are accelerated, and a large number of high-level high performance computing application talents are trained, which lead to great social and economic benefits. In addition, SSC has participated in many national high performance computing projects, developed and operated several world-leading supercomputers.
In the future, focusing on national science and technology development strategy, building Shanghai into a “Science and Technology Innovation Center with Global Influence” and “National Science Center", Shanghai Supercomputer Center will keep developing its leading computing resources, further improve its technical capabilities and service levels, assist more R&D groups to transform advanced computing capabilities into their scientific research and innovation capabilities, and build SSC into a first-class supercomputer center with international influence.
